People are lowered into the water whilst being in a cage. They are then able to observe the sharks whilst having the protection of cage.
How does cage diving work?

On a boat you will be driven out to an area which is commonly known for sharks to be there. The sharks know to be there as they know that they will be fed. Once the sharks have gathered, due to people throwing in food, the cage, which is attached to the boat, will be lowered. However it will not be fully lowered into the water, the top half will remain above the surface. People are then asked to get into the cage, the top hatch is then closed.
The concept is that the people can at any time come up for fresh air.
Is cage diving dangerous?

Although it may seem dangerous, there are no deaths that have happened from cage diving. The thick bars on the cage are spaced in a way that gives enough room to look through and observe the sharks however to narrow for a shark to actually fit through.
The closest anyone has ever come to being endangered during a cage dive, was in 2007.Off the coast of Guadalupe a cage had been destroyed by a great white shark. No one was harmed during this incident.
Where are the best places for cage diving?

Isla Guadalupe in Mexico is considered the best cage diving spot. This is due to the high numbers of great white sharks swimming about. The volcanic island is only accessible vie boat and takes a good 5 to 6 days to get there and back. Departing from either from San Diego (U.S) or Ensenada (Mexico). Best times to visit is from July to November, as it is the mating season for the sharks thus a lot will be around.

Other species you will encounter include the mako shark, leopard shark, soupfin shark, hammerhead shark, and even the ancient seven gill shark.
The Tiger Beach located in the Bahamas has its given name due to the abundant amount of tiger sharks. Other sharks you may see when cage diving at this beach include the lemon shark, hammerhead sharks and Caribbean Reef Sharks as well as Nurse sharks. Otherwise the Coral reef is also mesmerizing which adds to the cage diving experience.
